Do you know that there are actually sounds or alarms that can only be heard by the youths? I just learned about this from some news in the UK. Apparently a Tydfil-based Compound Security Company, Merthyr has developed a device called the Mosquito Technology. The said Mosquito alarm is used to drive the teenage gangs away from shopping centers. What’s cool about it is that it can only be heard by the youths who are below 20 years of age. Meaning to say, if you are an adult, you would hardly hear this noise. It runs on a medical phenomenon known as the Presbycusis. It refers to age-related hearing loss. It starts when you turn 20. This hearing loss affects the highest frequencies such as around 18 to kHz.
Well, the high-pitched alarm is a phenomenon and great invention alright. However, it seems to be the latter in the school premises. Would you believe that school children were able to record the sound and named it Teen Buzz? But you are probably wondering now why on earth would school children do that especially if the sound is used to drive out teenage gangs from malls? The answer to your question is, school children have made it their ringtones in class. That way, they can get away with using their cell phones!
Ever since cell phones have become so popular, schools have already prohibited the use of such in class. It distracts kids from their learning. However, it seems like nothing’s gonna stop these kids from using them. They have adopted the Mosquito Alarm into their own Teen Buzz. So now, they can start texting and calling during their classes without their teachers knowing what is happening.
But how did teachers knew about this? One secondary school teacher said that all the students were laughing about something. The kids said that somebody’s phone was ringing but the teacher couldn’t hear anything at all. Later on, one of the children has told the teacher but instead of getting mad, the professor was amazed at how kids could be resourceful. Now I’m confused!
