If you were asked to tell something about your all time favorite American president, which one would you pick, and what would you say about him?

Think carefully, and then open up your mind to accept a few facts you may not have known.

George Washington was not actually the first President of the United States. The real first President was Maryland’s representative at the Continental Congress, and his unknown name was John Hanson. On November 5, 1781, Hanson, who was considered a black man because of his Moorish heritage, was elected by the Constitutional Congress to the office of “President of the United States in Congress Assembled”. He served for one year and was followed by 6 other Presidents before Washington was elected.

President Thomas Jefferson had a long time common law marriage with one of his slaves, a teenager named Sally Hemings. They had 5 children together. Jefferson also was an apparent alcoholic. During his 2 terms, he spent close to $11,000 just on wine, which was a huge amount in those days.

President Grover Cleveland was a draft dodger. He paid someone to join the service in his place. He was scorned for this by his political opponent, James Blaine until it was made public that Blaine had done the very same thing.

Warren Harding was addicted to gambling, he once lost an entire set of White House China.

Franklin Roosevelt was related to his own wife. Eleanor was his second cousin. This First Couples marriage was not a happy one, President Roosevelt was a closet cross dresser, and for 30 years, Eleanor Roosevelt was having an affair with another woman, Associated Press reporter Lenora Hickok.

John Tyler, who was President from 1841 to 1845, joined the Confederacy twenty years later and became the only President named a sworn enemy of the United States.

President Andrew Jackson believed the world was flat and for all of his life, he refused to accept the proven fact that the world was round. Jackson once severely beat a man with his walking cane, because the man disagreed with him. (About something else)

Woodrow Wilson was a racist, and an outspoken white supremacist.

James Monroe was a college dropout, had a serious dedication to drinking, and was completely controlled by his wife and daughters. They were so selfish and spent money so freely that Monroe was practically bankrupt by the end of his second term.

These are only a few of the presidents, and only a few of their faults. However, your children won’t learn these facts in history class. Even though they are things, we should all know.

    Why are these things that “we all should know?”

    I don’t need to know about the personal lives of the Presidents (and certainly not about their wives). I just need to know what they did (or didn’t do) for our country.

    @Gun-

    Do you consider the personal lives of candidates before voting? Would you impeach a president for improper conduct while in office? If you answer “no” to both of those, I suppose you wouldn’t want that information. Granted, finding out that sort of thing after the fact is less useful. I guess it’s true what they say- “The only crime that exists in the world is getting caught.”

    By the way, I slept with your wife last week, but that shouldn’t matter because I saved you 15% on car insurance while at work.

    Gun Will Travel - Are you kidding me? Thorough background checks are required for a simple pedestrian job and you don’t think we should know about someone who will run our entire country? You think the ‘face’ they put on for the public is substantial enough? Hmm, how many serial killers seemed like ‘normal, law abiding citizens’. Huge drug bust in a house near a town where I live. The entire neighborhood was shocked since the owners were very polite and contributed to the community.
    I know what kind of person you are just from your statement. You should think twice before following blindly.

    Also author, can you please cite sources? If its from some site like trivia-bible or something I will just snap and kill someone.

    @Penis Mightier:
    Do I consider the personal lives of the canidates? Not nearly as much as I consider what they have done in their professional lives. I vote for the most qualified candidates, not the ones with the least amount of personal baggage.

    I would vote for impeachment for any President who breaks the law by lying under oath, but not for what he has done in his personal life. It may be disgraceful, but doesn’t disqualify him from serving in office and certainly isn’t something “we all should know.”

    @ImUrOBGYN:
    Would you have disqualified Jefferson and FD Roosevelt for their personal indiscretions? I think you’d have done the country a disservice by doing so. The Presidents do have “background checks” to an infinite degree nowadays thanks to the media and TMZ-minded individuals like yourself, and it hasn’t really proven that effective at producing better presidents.

    And the rest of your post just doesn’t have anything to do with the topic, which was why we do or do not need to know personal trivia about past presidents.

    You’re honestly trying to say that if someone is an alcoholic, a racist, addicted to gambling, willing to resort to violence simply becaus of a difference of opinion, etc in their personal life, isn’t going to affect their professional life?

    Sorry, but you’re very, very wrong.

    @ Gun_Will_Travel: Wait… so being addicted to gambling, a chronic liar, a racist, an alcoholic, and resorting to violence simply due to a difference of opinion isn’t going to affect someone’s professional life?

    ROFLAMO!

    I had a science teacher in the 7th grade that claimed he was related to John Hansen. This teacher was real wierd but interesting enough to actually learn something from. Too bad the only thing I remember learning from him is about John Hansen. Which had nothing to do with science. He would often repeat that John Hansen was the first president of the United States. Which probably why I vaguely remeber that.
