Car rental for Ibiza holidays

While Ibiza is a tiny island getting a around can be difficult. Its too hot to walk during summer, public transport is limited and scooters are notoriously dangerous. The best of Ibiza can only be discovered by car. Here are some of the islands best beaches to visit by car.

The best beaches on the east of Ibiza

If you’re based in Ibiza Town or Playa Bossa there’s plenty of great beaches just outside your resort. Santa Eulalia, just north of Ibiza Town, is a great place to start,. From there a little further north you’ll hit the secluded nudist beach at Aguas Blancas.

Best west coast Ibiza beaches

If you’re staying in the ever popular holiday resorts of San Antonio or the neighbouring San Antonio Bay area you’ll no doubt have beaches a short walk from your hotel doorstep, although these are some of Ibiza’s least attractive and most over populated spots. You’re better off hiring a car and heading to the south coast of the island which is just a short 15 minute drive away. Spend the day going from beach to beach along this idyllic coastline. Start at Cala Vadella, then Cala d’Hor and the ever popular Cala Jondal. If you’ve still got daylight left you can push on to the South East tip of the island where the islands Gay and nudist visitors congregate at Es Cavallet beach.

More stuff to see in your car

While you’ve got your car for the day you can do lots more than just visit beaches. Why not explore some of the less tourist inhabited villages of the north of Ibiza or some of the stunning countryside in the north east. You could visit one of the great flea markets or the unique hippy market near to Es Cana each Wednesday during the summer months.

Don’t worry about driving on Ibiza

If you’re not sure about renting a car on Ibiza by the though of driving on ‘the other side of the road’ or the thought of maneuvering through unknown towns you’ll probably be surprised how easy Ibiza’s road system is to drive and navigate around. Most rental cars are little things with automatics gearbox and you’ll have the option of satellite navigation (although you really don’t need it). Use the new motorway to cross the island very quickly. Probably the trickiest part of driving in Ibiza is parking in the often hap-hazard beach front car parks where pretty much anything goes when it comes to finding a space during busy times.

Where in Ibiza to rent your car

In Evissa, car hireproviders are generally over subscribed during the summer months. At times there’s just not enough cars on the island so book as early as possible and don’t wait until you get to the airport. All of the major global car rental brands can be found at Evissa airport, or you can rent from smaller local companies who will usually offer a cheaper rate- although you might need to be more flexible with your vehicle choice.
